for the sake of numbers i will round out and estimate
2 rounds of vc financing 2.2 and 3.2 say 5.5 million
5000 cities purchased at $25-$125,000
500 states purchased/registered at 100 each -$50,000
30,000domains registered at 2-4 each 30,000-$120,000
ad revenue per day times 3 years-estimate 100-500 per day take 250 a day times 1095 days -$275,000 total

payouts to members
arrf-13k
weblo invest-9k
cpe-5k
can-4k
industy3k
...ok so totoal weblo money(conservative side)5.7 mil in vc investment and say another mil in user purchases and ad money

6.7 million into a website
paid out maybe $40k once u subtract what money users poured back into the coffer
ok now this doesnt even take in the weblo tax, immigration charges and membership fees..add that in id say its closer to 7.5 million dumped into weblo and hell give them $50k paid out....

Now when i trade stocks i have to do quick on the fly analysis...judging by these numbers would you buy into weblo now?

heres the latest value of the whole weblo.com website 1. weblo.com Estimated Worth $301409.7 USD by websiteoutlook
weblo.com Estimated Worth $301409.7 USD.
..
301k...now hampton or someone tell me where the money went? Dont say into development. weblo is still a rudimentary website that most programmers and web devlopers wouldnt even release as a beta tester, So we all got robbed and we all know it. well i choose not to rob others, and to speak the truth. Weblo has lost its american foothold and canadian foothold and is rapidly becoming a pakistani niche social site. There is no particular attraction to weblo anymore. what we all came for was the lure of being paid for site visits...hell rocky promoted that, that was weblos slogan"we want to pay you for your content".now he has pulled the carrot bait and switch. there are WAy too many other websites that attract a higher number of online users that stick,so Hampton you hanging real estate banners on Sargodha pakistan doesnt quite fly anymore. face it weblos schtick is gone,,its not monopoly anymore,,hell noones buyin nothing...yea they dribble u pennies but i dont quite consider that Pay for contnet..so thats gone...social site? lol,,im not much into chatting with a fake man named beautiful cat,or a overseas spammer named hania,im sure i can find better things to do,oh wait weblo doesnt have a chat system..well...there goes that

heres a wiki list of some other social sites...and reg members..if it doesnt come out search social sites,,,weblo hasnt cracked 100k in 3 years and id say 50k of them are fake accounts..sorry guys dont see the angle here,,,if its ur gig go for it,ill move on to other things...so now weblo has lost as good developers..shaper,arrf,weblo invest,me,even can and steino...so whos gonna build at weblo? hampton u goin to build the world,,,with yavannas same spam on each of her sites about wonder woman and maryln monroe....have it boys and girls

Your bottom line doesn't take into account any of Weblo's expenses, such as:

Employee Wages/Salaries
Employee Benefits
Training
Hardware
Office Space
Internet
Utilities
Office Equipment
Advertising/Marketing
Travel
Software
Licenses/Permits
Security
Accounting/Payroll
Research

I'm not defending Weblo here, but your analysis is unrealistic and assumes that starting up, operating, and developing something like Weblo is free. More likely, member payouts are but a fraction of Weblo's expenses.

Weblo missed the boat. 45 days is typical turnaround for ad payments, although I expect that you are way underestimating their advertising revenue. They are automated now, they don't need auction commissions.

If their ads are converting 1/2 a percent they are lucky. They should drop the entire pay per click/adsense thing and move to pay per action/sale and give a reasonable cut of that. Would take care of the click fraud issues. Sure it would be a reset of the payout system, but they could afford to make it lucrative enough if they can line up enough marketers. An entire rethink of their financial model, one that might work fairly for everyone.

They took too long getting it off the ground, turnaround is possible but you can't start cutting people's checks and expect them to do anything to help you. Restructure maybe, large scale rate adjustments is another entirely.

Personally, my sites are very inactive at the moment. May look back at the model in a few months and see if there are angles I can use, but for the most part it is on perpetual hold. Getting into SEM, the numbers look good, see how it tests over the next month or so.

Building my domain portfolio, got 300 now. Concentrating on TV, .com and US.

There is money on the web. You guys know how to get traffic. Weblo has a decent engine for that, stop depending on them and just go around them.

later.

Those of you getting 50,000 clicks. If you paid for that traffic it would cost about $2500 if you were careful in your ad selections. If you weren't so careful it could be well over $100k to drive that much traffic.

You all fighting over the scraps. Since you rely on other people's content you aren't going to be able to generate that much with your own sites, at least using those tecniques.

There are advertisers that will give permission for "special" campaigns, which would fall within the scope of weblo. You should be all over that, weblo gives all the tools to quickly slap that kind of site together. If you can leverage them to be a bit more affiliate friendly (allow banner placement on news pages, that sort of thing) there might be some compromise. Weblo's marketing team should be lining those things up and setting up a place where you can go grab logo code, but if they won't do it, go do it yourselves.

The alternative is to find another engine or vehicle that suits your purposes. All sites including domains should be lifetime ownership. They should limit each domain name to one extension (of the buyers choice and changeable at will.) Currently existing duplicates would be grandfathered. This would take the time pressure off on making a site pay, and give a chance to actually add value.

Hampton's the bag holder, as are most of us. I know most of you perceive weblo as getting greedy, but I suspect that they were overpaying. An adjustment was probably in order, but they didn't handle it well and probably went too far in the other direction. Alienating users, particularly skilled ones is short sighted.

Another step that should be taken, is that old rates should apply up to (and slightly beyond) the paid membership level. Even if the current tiers are too high, they should give a reasonable opportunity to make back the investment. So if you buy a VIP membership, you should get full income up until the point where it is paid for, and a reasonable incentive to make money. As it is, why buy a VIP membership.

They also need to adjust the market. No one is going to buy a city if its going to lose money. Cities should get overrides on all assets (properties and domains) based on asset location and the member location at time of registration with weblo.

Baseline assets have to be potentially profitable, in and of themselves, if they expect people to generate quality content. I think they dropped the ball on it. Maybe when I've got 100k or so to invest I will build something better. Weblo should have been very profitable, and was briefly. Problem is, it still should be, for all parties involved. Very disappointing, but a valuable lesson in how not to do business.

Personally Weblo helped me learn a lot, so I'm not bitter. But the time has come to find other avenues to explore my abilities. Maybe will revisit Weblo when its worth doing again

see ya.

By the way. 50000 clicks at a 1/2% conversion rate (interested banner clicks) and a backend conversion rate of 2% should generate you about 25 sales at anywhere from ($1 to $250, with a median of about $20) is probably worth around $700 or so from the page owners perception.
If you got 60% at VIP that would make about 420/site.

If weblo were able to set up a decent advertiser program with the ability to change the referrer clicks by the current site owners ID, you would have a valid tradeable commodity in a developed site.

So ya, you were being overpaid. However now you are being way underpaid in my opinion.

Rethink. React. Rebuild.

Under this model a good site built around the right campaign could be less profitable or potentially much more profitable, depending on the affiliate.

Site layout flexibility could be leveraged to significantly increase conversion rates.

What they fail to realize is how much skill site builders like aarf and charleston bring in terms of generating traffic. By overcutting they are slicing their own throats. They need to get back to the original ideals, get everything in line with actual revenues and make it happen. Otherwise I will recruit you guys to build for one of my sites Wink

See ya.

Here's another interesting quantcast chart
http://www.quantcast.com/p-55gd7n3vj7fj6/traffic/
Weblo's actually measured data.
Ya their bot is a monster.

Interestingly, Febuary has seen a large decline in visits worldwide, imagine thats a result of the strike. About a 10% overall decline and a downward trend. Original content is key.

Another page shows their sources, almost all traffic coming from google, lots of interesting links on this page.

Wish I had the skills and the capital to get it done now, but I think 100k is probably in the ballpark to build a high quality similar site.
